All furnaces come with a standard air filter to keep particles from damaging the system. These filters are usually 1/2 to 4 inches thick and replacing them regularly keeps your system running smoothly. Regular filter changes also bring health benefits by keeping dirt and debris out of the air in your home.
You can buy many levels of air filters. All of them are rated along the MERV scale, from 1 to 16. Their ability to filter the smallest particles of dust mites, pollen, mold spores, pet dander, bacteria, and smoke determine the rating.
HOW WELL DOES YOUR AIR FILTER WORK?
The EPA has guidelines to help you choose the filtration protection best for your home. Match your current filter to the MERV levels below. Would you like more protection?
MERV 1-4: Basic protection. This level protects your furnace from damaging particles, but these filters are not designed to improve indoor air quality.
MERV 7-12: Higher Performance Protection. These filters remove smaller particles like bacteria, viruses, pet dander, and dust mites. The EPA says this type of filter effectively contains most airborne indoor particles. They are also less expensive than true HEPA with similar performance. In addition, they allow your system to have greater airflow and less noise than a true HEPA filter does.
MERV 13-16: Highest Protection. These filters are typically found in hospital and other sterile environments. They are so good at filtering air particles that they can hinder air flow unless they are in a specially-designed system.
WHAT ARE MEDIA FILTERS?
Media filters are thick, 4-inch filters with higher MERV ratings. Upgrading your standard filter increases your protection from pollutants and allergens. Our custom-made media filters capture dust, pollen, and virus-sized particles that are flowing through your air. ELECTRONIC AIR CLEANERS
TRANE CLEAN EFFECTS
Asthma & allergy friendly™ Certified by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.
With more than 60 million Americans suffering from asthma and allergies, this certification mark guides consumers in identifying products more suitable for people with asthma and allergies. The asthma & allergy friendly® Certification Mark is awarded only to those products that are scientifically proven to reduce exposure to asthma and allergy triggers.
Standard air cleaners have filters that are very dense, so they stop the dust by trapping it in a slightly porous filter. The fewer the pores, the more dust it can trap. However, this not only stops the dust and dirt, but it also stops the air from moving as well. So, you may not be as comfortable, and less air is cleaned efficiently. This is called pressure drop. The revolutionary Trane CleanEffects™ Air Cleaner has the lowest pressure drop with the highest efficiency possible.
Small particles, large effects
Particles like dust, smoke, and bacteria are often .3 microns or less. At that size, allergens can get deep into your lungs because they aren’t filtered well by your nose and throat. An effective Trane air cleaner, such as Trane CleanEffects™, can reduce the presence of potential asthma and allergy attack triggers in your home, like dust, pollen, pet hair and dander, dust mites, mildew, lint, fungus, most tobacco smoke, cooking grease, and even bacteria.
The Trane CleanEffects™ Air Cleaner utilizes patented, breakthrough air cleaning technology to remove up to an astounding 99.98% of airborne allergens from the air that passes through the filter. It catches particles as small as .1 micro in, making it 8 times more effective than even the best HEPA room filters and up to 100 times more effective than a standard 1-inch filter.
Verified by Harvard experts
Trane CleanEffects™ has been performance-tested by LMS Technologies and Environmental Health & Engineering, Inc. (EH&E), with the results verified by professors from the Harvard School of Public Health, so you know you are getting an air cleaner for your home like no other.
