Repair vs. Replace
Sometimes it’s hard to know whether it’s worth repairing your old system instead of installing a new one. Look at this chart to determine if repair or replacement is the best option for your given situation.
INSTALLATION QUALITY VS. BRAND NAMES
Many people swear by their favorite brand of HVAC equipment. However, in the nearly 20 years we’ve been in the industry, we have noticed that proper sizing and quality installation make a much bigger difference in comfort, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
Other experts agree. In the air conditioning buyer’s guide by consumer advocate ConsumerSearch.com, it states, “There isn’t a whole lot separating the highest quality central air conditioner systems from the lowest. However, there is a big gulf between the highest quality installers and those that are less-qualified — and that’s the reason behind wide swings in customer satisfaction between brands.”
GOOD INSTALLERS ARE HARD TO FIND
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) published a study in 2014 that said most homes had at least one of six common HVAC installation errors. Poor installations were responsible for wasted energy. Leaky ductwork, improperly sized ductwork, and undercharged refrigerant created the most problems for energy efficiency. Some homes in the study were using 30% more energy than the equipment SEER rating suggested because of these installation errors.
We do things right at Lifetime Heating. We follow industry standards for installation and do not cut corners.
A DUCTLESS ALTERNATIVE
A traditional furnace and air conditioner may be just what you need, but that won’t work for every home. If your home has unique features, we can help you determine the right fit for your home.
MINI-SPLIT DUCTLESS HEAT PUMP
Do you live in an older home without central air? Or do you have a room addition that is never the right temperature? A mini-split ductless heat pump may be the perfect solution for you. Mini-splits have indoor and outdoor components, just like a traditional system, but they are much smaller and do not require any ductwork. Also, they can be hung on a wall or ceiling to allow more flexibility and control for difficult areas. Additionally, mini-splits are more efficient because there is no possibility for ducts to leak. Mini-splits are used all around the world and are very popular in the Puget Sound.
